What's on today: Monday 20th July


Key events at the Assembly today include continued discussion on Congress and Constitutional changes, the launch of Chris Walker's much anticipated book Peace like a diamond: Facets of Peace, proposals from the Uniting Church agency, UnitingWorld and Assembly Task Group Reports. 

Introduction of new Constitution preamble

For the first time in Australia, and possibly in the world, a major Christian denomination in a Western nation defines itself in terms of its relationship with the people dispossessed by colonisation. Read more

Launch of Peace Like a Diamond

The Rev. Dr Dean Drayton referred to Peace Like a Diamond: Facets of Peace as an, “Amazing compendium of information and practical stuff,” when launching the book at the 12th Assembly on July 20. Read more

Congress and Constitutional Changes

Assembly will today continue its discussion about the proposed changes to the Constitution of the Uniting Church in Australia. When the proposal was introduced on Friday 17 the significance of the Preamble, particularly in terms of the relationship between the Assembly and the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, was recognised. 

Book Launch: Peace like a diamond: Facets of Peace

A morning tea will be held today at 10.30 am to celebrate the launch of Chris Walker's latest book Peace like a diamond: Facets of Peace. The launch will be held in Leighton Hall. All delegates are welcome.

UnitingWorld Proposals

UnitingWorld, an agency of the National Assembly will present several proposals to the 12th Assembly.

UnitingWorld will commend the Australian Federal Government for its commitment to increasing its aid budget, affirm its solidarity with a partner church, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, and urge the Australian Federal Government to increase its engagement with the Indonesian Government in relation to West Papua.

Assembly Task Group Reports

The Task Group for Jewish-Christian Relations will today give its report.
